SASUF Upcoming Activities
Beyond Bilateralism: Exploring Multilateral Partnerships for African Higher Education through the SASUF Experience
27th November, Pretoria, 11:00 - 12:30
This session takes a critical yet forward-looking view on what genuine partnership means in practice, inviting all participants to reflect, question, and co-create more sustainable and impactful ways of working together.
Guided by frameworks such as the African Union’s Agenda 2063 and STISA 2034, it highlights how initiatives like the South Africa–Sweden University Forum (SASUF+) and the Science Granting Councils Initiative (SGCI) are setting new standards for equitable, African-led collaboration.
Helin Bäckman Karltal (SASUF+) and Michael Nxumalo (NRF) will moderate the discussion. Panelists include representatives from Ugandan funding organs, South African university administration, ARUA, STINT, NRF, South Africa and Science Granting Councils Initiative. Key topics include:
* How do we move from short-term projects to long-term collaboration?
* What can we learn from SASUF+, SGCI and ARUA-Guild collaborations about shared ownership and impact?
* How can science diplomacy concretely foster trust and alignment across borders?
Join us to explore how Africa can lead the way in shaping a new era of global partnership in science and higher education!
